seems repetitive - still good though

I've enjoyed this series so far. It's a good series, but this book seemed repetitive. Our hero seems to fall into the same pattern of being unsure of himself, his abilities, or what's going on, then by the end he's confident again only to repeat this. and the plot seems to follow suite; insurmountable foe, almost lose a battle, but overcomes in the end. I don't want to be negative, and I do like this series and will continue to read it, but the developement of Tan seems to be a bit circular.

Wow, an awesome story.

Never a dull moment. This book moves so fast you will never be bored! The characters are always evolving and growing. Our hero has made the most changes in this series and it's a good thing he continues to grow into his powers. He has so many difficult problems to deal with but still manages to stay a step ahead of trouble. Barely! This is a great series and has kept my attention from the start. I'm glad it didn't end with five books, as originally intended. I'm hooked on this author!

Great series, this is the best book so far.

This is probably the best in the series so far. I think the writing has greatly improved over the series. I find it much smoother and easier to read. Than the first few books. The story itself is great. Its a different take on magic then usual. I definitely recommend this series if you like magic and adventure. Now if only I didn't have to wait 2 months for the last book.

Poor Effort

Nanobrewery USA appears to be a phoned in effort. The meat of the book is a listing of nanobreweries throughout America. Brewery listings include contact information, production volume, and hours. Most breweries have information about their brewing system and a couple of beers included. For the most part, these entries are pretty good. Several entries simply state that the brewery owners could not be contacted and are left blank or uses unquoted online reviews of the brewery and it's beers. This is the strongest section of the book.

Unfortunately, there is little else in the book besides the 75 or so brewery listings. I was hoping for a much larger discussion about why nanobreweries are proliferating and what their struggles are. The book only contains about ten pages of discussion about what a nano is and why they're different. The subtitle of A Chronicle of the American Nanobrewery Craft Beer Phenomena is overly bold for as shallow as the content is. I expected a richer set of topics and depth from someone who has owned a nano for several years now.

Good enough(for the price)

DW does a decent job of picking out some cool hideways for you to check out, without you having to spend hours on the internet googling 'nano' or 'craft beer', and he does it at a low cost. I've already locked in a half dozen places in the PNW that I will be checking out (if they are still in business this fall). Don't go crazy about the frame builds on kindle - they weren't 100% perfect, but it wasn't obnoxious or distracting.

Small can be beautiful!

The author argues that smaller breweries are more adventurous, more creative and more willing to experiment thatn larger breweries. His fascinating leads for "smaller-than-micro-breweries" with descriptions of their best products and contact information. It can be used to plan a large scale, long term "pub crawl," especially if your on the east or west coast where most of the entries are located.

A Really Good Place to Start

I have an eleven year-old son who thinks he's 13-going-on-21. Like most modern fathers, a nine-hour day - bracketed by a 40-minute commute - doesn't leave me with nearly as much time as I would love to spend with him. Add two younger brothers to the mix and "one-on-one" time becomes truly precious. I honestly believe that being a gentleman gains a man a lot of respect - even if the people he encounters really don't know why they respect him. Like all fathers, I want my sons to be liked & respected.

50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know covers the basics in a no-nonsense manner. Each situtation is breifly described and defined. It is then followed by "What you do," "What you DON'T do" and "Why." It is a very easy read (I read it from cover to cover in under 45 minutes.) that communicates it's ideas in a very clear manner. Does it cover EVERY situation that a young man is going to encounter? No, but it does a good job of covering the most common ones. Everything from "What to do with a napkin," to "How to treat someone with a disability."

These are all things that my four brothers and I were taught at home, but we had the absolute luxury (By today's standards.) of Dad being at home on the family farm when he wasn't commercial fishing or working for the county road department. Being the youngest, I got lots of "peer reenforcement" from my older brothers.

My son's reaction? "You're joking, right, Dad?" I looked him squarely in the eye and informed him that I was most certainly not joking and that I expect him to not only read the book, but to learn the things it has to teach -- and to put them to work in his life. He shook his head and walked off to his bedroom with the book. He was back in five minutes, promising to read five "Things" each day. I think he must have read the dedication I enscribed on the inside of the front cover. Most of it is highly personal and (I pray) not applicable to your individual situtation, but here is the last paragraph: "Why is your learning to be a gentleman so important to me? Because I love you and I want you to be liked and respected by everyone you meet. Love, Dad."

Like I said in my review's title: This is not the last word on training up your sons to be gentlemen, but it is a good first step on that all-important journey.

Grandsons loved it!!

I bought this book to use with my grandsons, ages 11 & 13. I pulled it out one day when they were visiting and read them the introduction. It might have been the phrase "impressing the girls" that first caught their attention! I read to them from the book, starting with "How to behave in a movie theater". The chapters are short instructions followed by "You do" and "You don't" and "Why" sections. The advice is excellent and concise! After reading a few chapters to them, the 13 year old asked to see it and picked a few chapters he wanted me to read to them. Then the 11 year old wanted to pick a few!! We spent over an hour reading and discussing and they never lost interest! The next morning they were still saying things like "I put the toilet seat down, "just like a young gentleman should"! We will read more together the next time they visit. The book is written so you can randomly pick chapters that appeal at the time. Money well spent, time well invested in "my two fine young gentlemen"!!

It explains not only why a behavior is appropriate, but why another behavior is inappropriate and harmful to others or yourself. A must read for all parents of boys in the increasingly asocial world of texting, youtubing, emailing, and facebooking.

One of the best books on manifesting available

I'll be honest -- I don't know what to think of the claim that Esther Hicks is channelling non-physical entities. I initially resisted buying this book because I am cautious around such claims of supernatural inspiration. But I respect Wayne Dyer and other great thinkers who praised this book, so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad that I did.

This is one of the most powerful books on manifesting your dreams that I've ever read. Every paragraph contains deep truths that just feel intuitively right. This book is especially effective in showing how our emotions are the key to understanding whether we are on the road to success or failure in manifesting our desires. The exercises are both fun and deeply practical. I particularly like the exercises involving the "Magical Creation Box" and "The Prosperity Game." They make you feel young again -- your imagination is activated and everything suddenly feels possible.

I don't know whether the origin of this book is supernatural, nor do I care. The message is true and the exercises work. Try it for yourself. It will change your life.

constantly amazed

The most important thing that I think everyone should know about this book ( and something that I think more reviewers should mention ), is that it really seems to work! I've had my copy now for about a year and I carry it with me everywhere. When I first read it I was very put off by the idea of all this information coming from a non physical entity being channeled by Ester Hicks and I almost laughed it off completely, but the concept was so inspirational that I decided to give some of the exercises a shot in spite of myself. The events that followed were absolutely unbelieveable. So many coincidences and manifestations have occured that I can't list them all. Let me make it clear that I am a natural skeptic and would not put my faith and trust in anything without considerable concrete proof. But as my list of occurences that can not possibly be coincidences grows, I'd be in denial not to think that there's something to all of this. I do not exagerate when I say my life has become amazingly happy, and I have to give credit where credit is due.
I know it sounds completely implausable and absurd to any rationally minded person reading the book and all of our reviews, so I say to you, don't believe me or anyone else, just get a copy for yourself and really really try it. The more you believe it the faster it works. you really do have to FEEL what it feels like to have what you want and the more you can feel it and believe that it is comming the faster it will. Things and events are now taking weeks instead of months for me. To anyone reading this I would love to hear in your reviews how it has WORKED for you and not just how much you were inspired by the message. To all reading the book, be consistent and patient because IT WORKS!

FANTASTIC! a must-read for anyone who wants total control over their life!

This is the first time I've ever felt the need to write a review, but this book is so amazing I just had to add my opinion. Over the past couple of decades, I've accumulated a huge library of metaphysical and self-help type books, and this book is by far the best of all of them. I now think that all the other, human, authors had only pieces of the bigger picture - but Abraham has it all. Abraham is a group of channelled non-physical consciousnesses, and as such, they possess a degree of credibility that human writers lack, since they have a broader perspective that is uncontaminated by human cultural baggage and distorted individual belief systems.

This is an extremely positive, uplifting, empowering book. It is free of dogma and all concepts of lack and limitation. The basic message is - life is supposed to be fun, and you can create your life in any way you desire, by changing your emotions and thoughts. It totally lacks the limiting and disempowering ideas that are found in so many books in this genre, and in fact it turns them on their head. So many writers teach silly things like "desire is bad/unspiritual" - in Abraham's view, desire is the basis of the universe, and they encourage the cultivation and joyful fulfilment of desire. Their view of life is radical, joyous and extremely refreshing - they know that we are energy beings enjoying our time in physical bodies, and that the physical world (which is really just a denser level of energy, but still formed by thought) is not something to be endured, while learning hard 'lessons', or proving our worthiness for a better life after death. On the contrary - we are leading edge creators - we are aspects of God (although thankfully they don't use the word 'God' much, recognising that it is too much of a loaded term for many people), and it is through joy, fun and fulfilling our desires that we can create the physical life and experiences that we want, and it is by this process that the universe/Source/God expands and evolves.

The book is divided into 2 parts - the first half focuses on the 'theory', and is very motivational, in addition to clearly explaining the concepts behind deliberate reality creation. The second half is a large and wonderful collection of techniques for putting it all into practice, and creating measurable results in your own life. Everyone will find something of benefit here, regardless of where you are in your life, or your current emotional state.

I've only been working with the Abraham materials for less than 3 months, but I've experienced radical improvement in every area of my life as a direct result. In fact, I now think of my life in terms of 'before' and 'after Abraham', because I really feel, think, behave, manifest and live as a different person now that I've 'raised my vibration'! If you only buy one personal growth book this year, make it this one - it's the first book I've read that I don't have a single bad thing to say about! It won't be good for everyone of course, but if you feel intuitively drawn to this book - buy it! (and then check out their other books & the material on their sites - I just don't have enough positive adjectives to describe how great they are!)

I actually found the translation accessible, though a bit dry. I will also agree with the other reviewer that facing page translations would be an excellent addition. However, aside from this.

This work is a translation of the entire Greek "Corpus Hermeticum" and the Latin "Asclepius" into Modern English. These works were arguably critical in shaping the European Renaissance, and have had a profound impact on Western thought.

In addition to the translation, the introduction is very well done as well. There is a wealth of information here which contributes a great deal to the scope of the work.

Finally, what can I say about the notes? The notes are about twice as long as the text, and provide a great deal of insight into the various other forms of works.

For anyone interested in studying this topic, this edition is absolutely essential. Highly recommended.

A valuable resource on western estoteric traditions.

This is a comprehensive collection of Hermetic literature. The translations seem complete and true, there are plenty of notes for more detailed analysis presented in a way that does not interrupt the primary original translation, and the content is beautiful and wonderful. Other sources I have studied also reference this specific edition, further supporting my notion that this is an invaluable resource for anyone investigating material of this nature. The portions that seem to have religious significance are written in an inclusive manner that is unlikely to offend even devout followers of specific faiths. I lack the words to recommend it more highly.

Who doesn't like Paul Revere? A well done book.

good-humored recounting of Paul Revere's life

"And Then What Happened, Paul Revere?" is an unconventional and good-humored recounting of Paul Revere's life. The little known details about his life and "adventures" add fun and interest to otherwise dry account of historical events. Did you know that Paul Revere whittled false teeth out of hippopotamus tusk to make extra money, had sixteen children, or that he forgot spurs on his famous ride? As the book repeats throughout its pages : "Sometimes on his missions things went just right. ...Sometimes things went poorly."

The vocabulary and writing style is very age appropriate - light conversational style with complex and simple sentences plus a touch of subtle humor. The repetitive pattern makes reading easier and more memorizing for younger readers. After each account Jean Fritz writes: "And then what happened?"

Margot Tomes' illustrations are detailed, informative, and often funny. With this book reader will get not only an entertaining read but some historical knowledge about Revolutionary America as well.

And then what happened, Paul Revere?

The story of Paul Revere is simply written by Fritz. Aftereach account she writes, "And then what happened? This patternthroughout the book makes the book easy to read, as you always know what the next section will be about. The information provided about Paul Revere is authentic. Young readers would find the information appealing. Not only does Fritz give authentic accounts of Revere's ride through Boston, Concord and Lexington, but she adds specific details to each. For example, she tells of how Revere and Adams had to return to a tavern in Lexington to get a trunk of important papers Adams had left, and how they walked right through the American lines in the process. While the actual text is informative yet light-hearted and easy to read, the illustrations provide essential support. This adds to the simplicity of the book. Included at the end of the story is an author's note on historical facts contained within the story that were not completely developed in the text. Fritz in her notes adds to the events so that the reader gets a true account of history. Overall, this book is an appealing, authentic, and easy to read account of Paul Revere's life, perfect for the middle school child!
