Christopher Kenworthy worked as a writer, director, and producer for fourteen years. He directed a feature film, along with many music videos and commercial projects. Currently he is focused on writ-ing. Christopher is the author of the best-selling Master Shots Vol. 1, Master Shots Vol. 2, and Master Shots Vol. 3: The Director s Vision. He is also the author of two novels and many short stories. Born in England, he currently lives in Australia with two daughters and the actor Molly Kerr.

Very cool and smart dissection of Tarantino's style and influence

I had a terrific time with this book. As someone who has watched all of Quentin Tarantino’s films – and had varying reactions to all of them – I found this book both educational and extremely enlightening. Given Tarantino’s undeniable impact upon the film culture of the early 90’s and his subsequent (some would say unshakeable) influence ever since, this book is proof – if any was needed – of just how deeply Mr. Tarantino’s cinematic DNA has been embedded in the popular moviegoing world.

The author, Christopher Kenworthy, has clearly done his homework. He not only understands the complex emotional effect that Tarantino’s films elicit – often, it’s a cocktail of giddy, amoral violence and deeply messed-up humor, all polished off with a self-conscious movie nerd’s sheen and surf rock or 70’s soul on the soundtrack – but just how those sensations manifest themselves through his cinema. Breaking down, moment-by-moment, shot-by-shot, some of the most memorable and gruesome scenes from “Reservoir Dogs” and “Django Unchained” should be required homework for anyone looking to study Q.T.

Kenworthy examines the building of tension that comes with some of Tarantino’s most shocking and violent scenes. Since Q.T. is one of the most recognizable writers of dialogue working in movies today, he is able to play the audience like a puppet, knowing exactly when the brutality should strike. Kenworthy understands this, and he’s able to do much the same to his reader through mastery of his craft and knowledge of his subject.

It’s also interesting to note the stylistic differences that permeate all of the director’s films: the camera movements and general style of something like “Jackie Brown” is markedly different then the more frenzied, overtly cinematic approach of the “Kill Bill” films or “Django Unchained”. Kenworthy drives these points home with tremendous insight and he makes us see the picture crystal clear. His economy as a writer turns out to be his biggest asset.

Overall, highly recommended. This book made me see Tarantino’s films in an entirely new light. One can only hope Kenworthy covers more directors with more great books like this one.

A Celebration of Tarantino's Craft

Author Christopher Kenworthy tells us that “Tarantino is famous for many reasons, but he is underrated as a technical filmmaker” within the introduction to this very important book about film directing. And this is true, so many of us admire Tarantino for his gritty, realistic stories that are often produced as homages to classic films within various genres, that we forget that he is also a nearly flawless film director. If you are at all interested in Tarantino as an artist, and most definitely as one of America’s finest film auteurs, then this book is for you. You don’t have to be a student director to enjoy this book, although many students who are studying directing can definitely learn a lot from this volume. This is a must-read for Tarantino fans and film students alike. You will assuredly know how Tarantino sets up his scenes and executes his vision by the end of this book. I’m not a film director but I do enjoy his movies and I am now going to enjoy his movies even more after reading this book.

This book has nice summaries of key points and calculations.
The descriptions are easy to read and the solutions manual is very helpful.
I have used this book as a reference for basic material and a refresher for subsequent statistics courses.
If your instructor has assigned this book, be not afraid; but, order the solutions manual for extra comfort.

Some intriguing moments

When I was a teen, I loved this book, so I pulled it off my shelf to see if it was as good as I remembered. Elizabeth Austin, who is cured of epilepsy when electrodes are implanted in her brain. Another electrode allows her to view another woman's life. This woman lives a dream life about 100 years ago in upper-society England. As time goes on, Elizabeth discovers the woman's life isn't as idyllic as it seems and has an equally sinister future.

Breakthrough has some intriguing moments. I still enjoyed the concept of time travel and suspense, but it was very slow moving in places. Because I had read it before, the ending was expected. I won't give any spoilers, but I found the ending a bit of a disappointment.

I also checked this out from the library after reading Replay, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The basic premise was: A woman suffering from epilepsy has an experimental procedure performed on her in order to help lessen the severity of the seizures. But a strange side effect occurs when she tries it -- she sees through the eyes of another woman. She feels what the woman is feeling. The interesting part was that the woman lived about 100 years ago, she's a prostitute, and she is a maniac. Murder. Intrigue. Time travel. A great twist at the end. This book deserves to be in print. Check your local library.

I read this book because I loved Replay and I thought this one was just okay. The story starting out interesting but I just hated the ending. I felt sorry for the husband and the other good characters and felt let down at the ending. I thought this book would be better than it was. Don't buy the book.

Errors in the formulas and questions are misleading. We spent awful lot of time trying to figure out how to calculate the wrong value

Rife with errors -- authors should be embarrassed

This book is filled with errors. Both mathematical and grammatical. I am studying for the CPIM exam and I don't feel like I can even trust the answer key anymore. The authors should be embarrassed and APICS should re-evaluate their endorsement of this book. It is completely unacceptable that a test reference be this sloppy. Terrible.

the book try to explain every concept through a complex way, which could be done easily and clearly. If you read another book "Introduction to materials management" before, you will understand what I say.

…aspects of this book are gems and I felt almost driven to want to develop a course which might be based on sections of it…the authors show deep knowledge of and empathy for their material. It is fascinating and close to inspirational…the experiments are the crowning glory and make the book worth every penny for the university teacher of light and optics. This is brilliant stuff.

Explores optics, stimulates interest, sharpens brain

The book by T. Rossing and C. Chiaverina is written in a profoundly elegant manner. The authors introduce the phenomena of light and colors, reflection and refraction, interference and diffraction, polarization, light sources and spectra, holography and photography, computer images and optical storages, as well as symmetry in art and nature. It is not only a textbook of contemporary optics for a one-semester undergraduate course, but it is also helpful for industry engineers working in the optical area, college professors, and physicists. Compared to most textbooks, this book has four distinct characteristics. (1) The book emphasizes the phenomena and experiments of light rather than the mathematical theories of light. (2) It includes wide fields, from geometric optics (mirror, lens) to physical optics (slit, grating) and from quantum optics (laser, spectrum) to the symmetry, and connects them. (3) It discusses the intrinsic properties of optics and the combination of art and nature. Young students can obtain the fundamental optical concept as well as the sophisticated philosophic idea. (4) Most importantly, it stimulates the interest of the readers to explore more contents of optical phenomena and theories. My daughter, a college student, said, ��I learned many things, having fun at the same time��.
It was my pleasure to read the book and I recommend it highly.

Wonderful Resource for All Science Teachers

Light isn't just about electromagnetic waves - it is about human perception of those waves. This book is a wonderful resource for all teachers, and an easy and pleasurable bed-time read as well. It accurately and simply presents the pure physics of light and color and then relates it to our perception of that light and color. However, as a resource for teachers, it also provides numerous hands-on experiments suitable for students at many different levels. I'm using the polarization experiments with my high school classes at the moment. The demo using a CD as a diffraction grating is awesome, even if you don't want to explain how it works. This book is my constant companion in my effort to share "Light Science" with my students.

I have used Light Science as a reference to teach an introductory optics course to middle school students. The chapters are easy to read and full of real-life examples. Each chapter concludes with quick, inexpensive experiments relating to the topic. Most experiments cost only a few dollars and use common household items. Students are excited to see the mysteries of light unfold. Lively discussions result from experiments that they can easily perform, bringing further emphasis to the topic. Light Science is in an invaluable resource for the teaching of Physical Science.

This book is a MUST HAVE for all cat lovers! It is also for history buffs, who happen to love cats, like me. Kathleen Walker-Meikle has worked hard in her field of animals and medicine in the middle ages and this book shows her love of the topic. With illustrations and explanations of the cat, it is awe-inspiring.

Cats! I really had not realized how often cats appear in authentic Medieval illumination. I bought this little book because I'm a history buff, and enjoy recreating scrolls for SCA illumination. Many of my clients want their cats shown, and here are excellent examples of how to do it.

Interesting book with great illustrations

Very interesting book with great illustrations in color. Also, good use of primary sources if you're doing a research paper.

Be advised that if you're a real cat lover, you may find some of the content distressing. Cats had a very mixed reputation in the medieval period and the author covers the bad as well as the good.

I suggest hanging on through the bad parts. If nothing else, they offer some insight into why some people today dislike cats.
